Who we are

focilab is an applied research and intelligence firm with offices in Philadelphia, United States and London, United Kingdom. For the purposes of applicable data protection law, focilab is the controller of the personal data described below. Privacy questions and requests can be sent to info@focilab.com.

What we collect

• Assessment responses. When you take the online assessment we store the name, email address and organisation you provide, your five answers, and the score and tier we calculate from them.
• Chat conversations. If you use the chat assistant, we store the contact details you enter and the messages exchanged, so that we can answer you and keep a record of what was said.
• Orders and payments. If you order a paid report, we record the organisation name, website address and email address you supply. Card details are handled entirely by our payment processor and never reach our systems.
• Enquiries. Correspondence you send to our enquiry addresses, including any attachments.
• Technical records. Standard web server logs (IP address, user agent, requested URL, timestamp) generated by our hosting environment.

Why we use it

We use this information to provide the assessment result, respond to your enquiry, deliver a report you have ordered, keep our records accurate, and understand how the site is used so that we can improve it. Where we rely on your consent for a specific contact, you can withdraw it at any time.

We do not sell personal data, and we do not use assessment or chat content to build profiles for advertising.

Who processes it for us

A small number of suppliers process data on our behalf, and only for the purposes above:

• Hosting and email. Our website, database and transactional email run on our own hosting environment.
• Chat assistant. Messages sent to the chat assistant are processed by a large-language-model provider to generate a reply.
• Payments. Where a paid report is offered, checkout and card processing are handled by our payment processor.

How long we keep it

Assessment responses and chat transcripts are kept while they are useful for answering you and reporting to clients, and are deleted on request. Enquiry correspondence is kept for as long as the relationship requires. Order and payment records are kept for the period applicable tax and accounting rules require. Server logs are rotated on a short cycle and are not used to identify individuals.

Cookies and local storage

This site does not use advertising or third-party analytics cookies. Your browser's local storage is used to remember a chat session identifier and any contact details you enter in the chat panel, so that you are not asked for them twice. Clearing your browser storage removes both.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to certain processing, and to receive it in a portable form. Write to info@focilab.com and we will respond within the period the applicable law allows. If you are in the UK or the EU you may also complain to your local supervisory authority.

Security

Access to collected data is limited to the people who need it to do the work described here. Client research material is kept separate per engagement and is not pooled between clients.
